Marie Allirot - Unlocking language learning

As someone new to chatbot development, I was thrilled when Mindjoy invited me to produce a video for their website's how-to section . I designed a mini Genially escape game featuring a 5-digit passcode. In order to unlock the padlock, users need to engage with the chatbot and ask questions in French. The conversation with the chatbot enables you to unlock the padlock. While browsing social media, I stumbled upon these incredible illustrations of French idioms created by Adrien Di Carlo using AI ( original post ). Can you try to guess each one of them? idioms Adrien Di Carlo by Marie Allirot Answers at the end of this post. It brought back memories of a lesson I designed for my Year 8 pupils about Google Translate. I had tasked them with deciphering the meanings of various idioms and creating illustrations using an AI image generator. Nowadays, it will be easier to use ChatGPT to work out the meaning of the idioms! I am linking Mindjoy Chatbots within Genially to develop little activities. I am still experimenting with this so this is not perfect but I can already see lots of potential. Activity 1: Students will need to engage with the chatbot to figure out how to unlock the padlock on this Genially: You won't be able to access my Chatbot but here is a screenshot to give you an idea: The script for my chatbot was: Your name is Lucas, and you're a 9-year-old French boy born on December 3rd. You have a dog, a cat, and two fish. You have one brother and three sisters. Your task is to help students find a code to open a lock. The code is five digits long, and the children will discover the answers using your replies to the questions below. The children must ask you the following questions in French: What is your name? (Comment t'appelles-tu?) How old are you? (Quel âge as-tu?) When is your birthday? (Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire?) Do you have any pets? (Tu as un animal?) Do yo...

We have become so accustomed to relying on technology for our teaching that when the Eco rep at the school declares Thursday, April 18th, as a blackout day, it's a real call to think creatively. I thrive on challenges and am eager to create unique and engaging activities. So, I started to get some ideas and devised a scavenger hunt for pupils in years 6 to 8. I made 50 cards (in 4 different colours for four groups) featuring various words and phrases representing items they'll need to find in the playground. There are some crazy cards where the children will need to use their imagination and creativity to get a point! Let’s hope that the weather will be nice on that day!
