New to blogging, I'm excited to start this journey to share ideas for teaching MFL.

Let me introduce myself. I'm Marie Allirot, a native French speaker from a small village between Lyon and Saint-Etienne. For the past 25 years, I've dedicated myself to teaching languages here in the UK. Initially, I spent 14 rewarding years in two secondary schools before joining the prep school where I've been for the past 11 years.

Throughout my educational journey, I've taken on various roles, such as Form tutor, 3rd in Department, Head of Department, Deputy Housemistress, and Housemistress. These experiences have allowed me to make significant contributions to curriculum development and student engagement.

My true passion lies in integrating technology into education, a passion that's reflected in my roles as an administrator for the "Teaching with Genially" Facebook group, my work as a Genially ambassador, and the webinars on gamification that I've been conducting since August 2020.


As an educator, I am committed to continuously exploring new horizons in the field of education. I'm always eager to find innovative ways to enhance the learning experiences of my students.

A Christmas escape game in French I created this escape game last year but planning to re-use it this year as it was such a success.  The vocabulary needed for this task is: To create the atmosphere, I created an little video with    AI invideo . The children have to crack a 4-digit code by completing tasks displayed in the classroom on  4 reindeer (z-e-r-o) 5 snowmen (t-r-o-i-s) 2 trees(u-n)  4 elves (d-e-u-x) A letter is given after each task (the letters spell the code 0312 but do not tell the children as they might guess the numbers before completing all the tasks). French celebrations escape game

I designed an escape game focused on French celebrations for my classes to complete during our languages week. Inspired by the Head of Religious Studies at my school, I aimed to create a cross-curricular activity. I created a little video with Vidnoz to introduce the task.  For this task, you will need to display the graphics around your room (I hang them on the ceiling - graphic on one side, QR code on the other side). Each QR code takes them to a Genially with information to read like this one about "La fete des rois" The children answer questions about each celebration on a worksheet. Zackabier - Cross curricular with Geography and Art

I absolutely love coming across creative gems while scrolling through social media. Recently, I discovered the imaginative work of Zackabier, a German Youtuber who asked his fans what the shapes of various European countries reminded them of. Their responses were both clever and entertaining, inspiring him to illustrate 48 European countries based on their humorous suggestions. This gave me the idea to have the children copy his style by creating illustrations of various countries for our language week.
